Heathrow Terminal 5 Landscape Irrigation
Current work includes the Heathrow T5 landscape irrigation for Hasmead PLC. This later project is probably the largest landscape irrigation system currently under construction in the UK, and is overseen by Hyland Edgar Driver. Hasmead are working from the construction level earth works, and are importing topsoil and completing all the finishing works and planting of the landside areas around the Terminal.
The T5 project is irrigated from the site wide grey water main, and water use is carefully monitored. A PC based control system will be installed to enable the operators to maximise the efficiency of the system and log the water use. The shrubs, trees, ground cover planting and turf are irrigated with drip and sprinklers. The earth reinforced walls are planted at 9 plants/m², and a pressure compensated drip system has been installed on these 60º slopes to ensure each plant is individually watered. The contract will run in planting seasons until 2008 with the final phase including the irrigation of the planting between the new terminal and car parks.
