Ballycastle Fountains

Ballycastle town, situated on the north east coast of Ireland, is at the heart of the famous nine Glens of Antrim and the causeway coast.
Ocmis worked with Moyle district council and Whittaker & Watt Architects to replace the existing disused fountain on the seafront with the current state of the art display.
The 16 ‘Child friendly’ water jets are all individually controlled and arranged in two concentric circles helping to maximise the effect and range of programming options, with travelling and chasing waves, roman candle effects, pop corn effects and uniform jumping jets all available.
The jets are operated by Crystal Fountains Choreoswitches™ with all the fountain mechanics hidden from view but readily accessible for any necessary maintenance.
The fountain is lit during the hours of darkness by 32 DMX controlled LED light units. These allow a synchronised, ever changing, dynamic lighting display to be created using the 16 million colours possible.
Water quality is crucial for an animated water feature such as this, and as such the water is constantly filtered, treated and monitored with an automatic system in the plant room to ensure it is clean and safe.
The entire system is controlled by an Ocmis designed and manufactured control centre located, along with the other items of plant, remote from the feature in a walk in plantroom.
The project was ‘fast tracked’ from its conception through to realisation in just four months, with all programming of the display and lighting being carried out and tested, full scale, off site at Ocmis’ test facility in order to minimise site time and aid the programme.
Since it’s completing in June 2006 the feature is proving extremely popular.
