Queenwood Golf Club

Queenwood Golf Club is a new course designed by David M Kidd. Ocmis were contracted by Barrelfield Golf Construction Ltd, the main contractors, to supply and install a comprehensive irrigation system.

Queenwood has been designed to the highest standards, featuring fine grass species and heathers to give an established feel to this Surrey golf course.

The irrigation system was designed and laid out by Giles Wardle Associates, and irrigates the greens, tees and fairways of the 18-hole course. The collars and mounding around the back of the greens are also irrigated using separate sprinklers installed 12 metres away from the rear of the green. The fairways have three, four or five rows of sprinklers, with half circle sprinklers along the edges of the tree-lined fairways throwing onto the fairways. This arrangement ensures maximum water efficiency.

Ocmis installed a Rain Bird Cirrus control system linked to the Rain Bird WS-Pro weather station. This gives accurate information on water requirements specific to the site, and can be programmed to automatically adjust the water application to suit the weather conditions.

A system of water harvesting was incorporated into the drainage system. Water is collected from the land drainage and stored in a lined reservoir on the edge of the site. It can be pumped to the irrigation storage tank as required. The water supply can also be supplemented automatically from the mains water supply.

The storage tank has a 20m diameter and is 2.4m high, holding 715m3 of water. This is installed below general ground level, together with the pump house, adjacent to the purpose built greens maintenance complex.

Since the course has been completed Ocmis has installed additional sprinklers in the lawn areas around the clubhouse. The entrance drive has also had sprinklers installed along its length and other sensitive landscape areas have had sprinklers added as the course matures and the additional needs become apparent.
