Gleneagles

In December 1997 Ocmis was invited to tender for the supply and installation of a new irrigation system to the Kings and Queens courses at the Gleneagles Hotel. The existing system had aged to the point of becoming unreliable, which was naturally felt to be unacceptable.
After competitive tendering, Ocmis were awarded the contract for the proposed works. In November 1998, work began on the project with the piping system installation being carried out using a selection of vibratory moleplough machines, thus minimising surface scarring and, of course, disruption to players.
Over the next four months the system was installed, involving a new 200m³/hr variable speed pumping station, which would abstract water from an existing lake, and high performance polyethylene underground mainline pipelines. Electric valve-in-head Rain Bird Eagle sprinklers were installed for greens and approaches and check-o-matic Rain Bird Falcon sprinklers for tees. Importantly, all elements of the system were sized so that comprehensive fairway irrigation, an objective of the Gleneagles management, could be added at a later date.
The system was commissioned, tested and handed over in April 1999. The involvement of Ocmis, however, continues for Ocmis management can access the control system remotely, reading and interpreting instrumentation and flow records, and so assisting the Gleneagles Golf Maintenance Coordinator in the management of his significantly improved irrigation system.
