Woodbury Park Hotel Golf & Country Club

In the heart of the beautiful and picturesque Devonshire countryside lays the small village of Woodbury. On the outskirts of the village the prestigious golf, hotel and country club of Woodbury Park presents 27 challenging holes of golf together with sports and recreation facilities, used by a wide variety of clientele. 

Ocmis have recently installed a fully automatic irrigation system to all 27 greens, tees approaches and fairways with additional automatic watering to the football training pitch and golf presentation area.

The system boasts over 470 individual pop-up sprinklers linked to a central pump station by 27 kilometres of underground pipework, the majority installed using a vibratory moleplough technique.

The pumping system is a Rain Bird manufactured variable speed type unit comprising of 3 pumps linked to a 231,000 litres water balance tank. By utilising the variable speed type of control, the pumpset will vary the duty of the pumps depending upon the required demand of the system. This type of pump control saves both water and energy wastage.

The pumping system also features pump management software whereby the Course Manager can monitor the system and use an active responsive link to the irrigation control software.

Water levels within the irrigation balance tank are continually monitored by an ultrasonic level detection system and linked to a central water source control panel, manufactured by Ocmis. This panel instructs a number of different sources of water, including borehole, lake and mains, to commence operation depending upon the demand required, ensuring that the system is never without water.

The Rain Bird Eagle series of sprinklers have been utilised throughout the greens, approaches and fairways with up to three rows of sprinklers in places to cover the vast mown fairway areas. The reliability and effective watering of the Eagle range is unsurpassed making it one of the most popular rotors in the world today.

Woodbury Park, owned by a famous motor racing driver, is maintained to the highest level at all times. The new irrigation system assists with this maintenance by providing reliable, accurate watering, available 24 hours per day 7 days per week. This accurate watering is controlled and monitored by a central decoder type control system, the Rain Bird Nimbus II.

The Rain Bird Nimbus II central control system provides many superior watering and management features from full GPS graphical course representation to flow management and recording. The system is directly linked to the pumpset and permits accurate control over the system including program standby procedures in the event of a pump station failure.

Versatile remote management of the irrigation is perfected by using radio remote control and the new Rain Bird Freedom Pad systems at Woodbury Park. Both are in operation allowing on-course commanding of the central control system including individual station or whole program starting facilities.
